Pretty sure this is where the Aliens parked

As you read this I am on my way to Alice Springs, NT. For those who don’t know…that’s in the middle of Australia.

Its a ****** long way from Melbourne. 5 Day drive.

Why might I be going into the desert you ask?

Well I am doing the Shit Box Rally. In short, I’m raising money for cancer research in honour of my friend Stu who died of a brain tumour back in 2020.

What we are doing is driving a shit box (term used for a car bought for less than $1500AUD) and we are driving it through the desert, from Alice Springs to the Gold Coast via Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Silverton (where they filmed Mad Max).

This Crazy arsed route. It’ll be fun….apparently.

This post is really just an update to say this also affords me the opportunity to tkae some pictures too. Not lots because I have a Rally to complete, but there will be some time to do this.

As I write this I have 2 weeks to go so I’m really trying to figure out what I should take.

I will be taking my Digital Camera (Boo, I know), But I’m also planning on taking a film camera. My newly bought EOS300 as I described last week can fit all the same lenses as my 6D2 so that’s a no brainer. However, I want to take a medium format camera..mostly becuase I have an entire drawer of medium format colour film that needs to get used.

This is where I am stuck. By the time you have read this I will have made my decision but it boils down to this:

Do I take the Zeiss Ikon Nettar for it’s portability sharp optics and 12 shots a roll, or do I take the Bronica ETRS for 15 shots a roll, interchangable film backs and still good optics?

I genuinely don’t know what I’ll take. I’d love to get some shots on both colour and BnW so I can print in the Darkroom. But this is also not a photography trip and I have weight, bulk and time considerations. Whilst I’m driving up, I’m flying back. So I need to ensure I can bring anything back.

What would you favour? Once this comes out I’ll have started the road trip, so I’ll comment on the bottom what I ended up doing!
