New Website

Since I closed my previous website down in 2023, I have neglected much of my online presence. This wasn’t really a bad thing. I had moved from Cambridge, UK back to Melbourne, Australia and I really wasn’t doing much photography. In 2021 I had a daughter, and you’d think that would be cause for much photography, but as I focussed more and more on analogue processes I found it harder and harder to take images of my family that wern’t quick snaps on the phone.

This new website and blog is a determined step towards more photography and more analogue work. In a world where everything is digital and billions of throwaway images are made every hour, I wanted to slow down more and just enjoy the process.

I will endeavour to post behind the scenes work here showing how I made certain images, and if I manage to video any of it, I’ll also post it up.

Why I left Squarespace

Square space back in the day was good to me. When I was in the UK I enjoyed their services, their quick response when things went wrong and I was able to use them as a store front to sell things too. In 2023 I was still paying in GBP and they explicitly told me I couldn’t switch to AUD. So I stopped paying and shut the website down. I then had to delete my account, and reset a new one in Australia. All was fine and I recreated a refreshed website in squarespace using an Australian account. The problem came when I tried to use my domain alexanderdavenport.com with the new squarespace account. It wouldn’t recgnise that I had closed the previous account down and reconnect it to my new one. Reaching out to squarespace got me caught in their really annoying chat bot, and when I emailed them for help I received no answer (still haven’t). So I have cancelled my subscription and will use this WordPress site from now one (or until something better comes along).
